Message To Al

Is this the product of 7 consecutive seasons of double digit losses? This billboard, via http://www.messagetoal.com/, is up at Nimitz Frwy (I-880) close to Oakland Alameda County Stadium. The total cost of the billboard was $5,500 for a 4 week lease starting Dec 1, 2009.

Every Dick, Jane, and Tom who has followed the Raiders knows instinctively that the 1st step to turning this organization around is to hire a GM. As outlined in one of my earlier posts, the only way to make a positive, sustainable change is for Davis to hire a GM to provide the executive support the team desperately needs.

If it takes a billboard and 25k people to sign a petition to shame Davis into action, so be it. The bottom line is that the fans that genuinely and honestly care about the Raiders getting off the rocks and into the deep blue sea realize that Al Davis NEEDS and DESERVES a GM.

It isn't rocket science. It isn't a breakthrough idea. It isn't anything revolutionary. It is merely a logical, reasonable solution to making a significant positive change. The status quo is a dead end. It provides zero hope for the avid Raider followers. Until a GM is hired, expect double digit loss seasons to pile up and Davis' legacy to be further tarnished.

Sure we can all hope for a better draft, a better coaching staff, improvements by our existing players. If the stars are aligned, a .500 season would be a major accomplishment. If shooting for .500 is the "ultimate" goal, go ahead and knock yourself out but don't count on the loyal fans to stick around. Your diehard fan will invest less of their time & money and simply become casual observers and nothing more.

Just quit going to games and starve Al out.If only 40,000 show up at games he has to notice and either get a GM or soon he'll have to sell the team.Fans need to show him they will not tolerate this.

John Madden. Give him GM role and then sell him the team....

Tony Dungy. John Madden's first move as GM - hire the best coach available today (or ever?)

I guess you are 'ok' with 7 consecutive years of double digit losses. I would be 'ok' with it too if I sensed that real change in the way business is conducted in Alameda was right around the corner.

The NFL isn't a regular corporate enterprise ... The NFL shares revenue, t.v. contracts etc. amongst all 32 teams. The NFL will continue to prop up the Raiders regardless of how many empty seats there are on any given Sunday.

Mike:
I love your suggestion but I don't see it happening. A more plausible scenario is Jim Fassell or Marc Trestman as the new Head Coach & Davis continuing to wear too many hats.

Enjoy your weekend and I hope the Raiders play a competitive brand of football vs. the Steelers.

Great post SBF, and a celebratory day for Raider Nation. When the news media gets hold of the "Message To Al" story, he'll have no choice but to respond. Did Lane Kiffin endorse the billboard?

Thanks for linking to and promoting this effort. As true Raider fans, we need to get involved and get Al to retire from directing the team. He's gone from football genius to the epitimy of blundering, meddlesome football owner.
