AFC WEST Scoreboard (1963 to Present)
Being a Raider fan has been especially difficult the past 6 seasons. What really gets under my nerves are the fans from our divisional rivals who talk trash but don't have the numbers to back up their unfounded rubbish.
Most of this gibberish tends to center around putting down owner Al Davis. Al Davis joined the Raiders in 1963 as Head Coach and General Manager. The numbers below paint the accomplishments of each respective divisional team throughout this period of time. By any objective standard for measuring and comparing these franchises, the Raiders have clearly been the team which has been the most successful. Using the 7 categories below, the Raiders outrank the Chiefs and Chargers across the board. The Raiders outrank the Broncos in 5 of 7 categories.
Here is the true AFC West scoreboard from 1963 to the present:
Category | Oak | Den | KC | SD |
Playoff Appearances (seasons) | 21 | 17 | 14 | 14 |
Playoff Wins (games) | 25 | 17 | 7 | 10 |
Divisional Titles | 16 | 10 | 6 | 12 |
AFC Championship Appearances | 12 | 8 | 3 | 7 |
AFC Championship Titles | 5 | 6 | 2 | 1 |
Super Bowl Appearances | 5 | 6 | 2 | 1 |
Super Bowl Championships | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 |
Taking it 1 step further, here are additional facts for divisional rival foes to calibrate the next time they open their pie holes:
San Diego: Prior to the 2007 season, the Chargers last playoff victory came in 1994. The trophy case remains void of a single Lombardi Trophy.
Kansas City: The Chiefs only Super Bowl victory was 40 years ago and last playoff win was in 1993. 16 years have gone by without a single playoff victory and you want to harp on the Raiders recent 6 season swoon?
Denver: Since Elway hung up his cleats after the 1998 season, the Broncos have won 1 divisional title and 1 playoff game.
Oakland: To put the above facts in perspective, the Raiders have won 4 playoff games, 3 divisional titles and appeared in the Super Bowl within the last 9 years.

Dude, we fricken dominate The AFC west. Somebody gave me the impression that Denver had five. It was all an illusion. No matter what ,to me, The Raiders dominate no matter what. But to see we have paved more trails than any one in our division makes me proud.
Raider Nation is in effect for 2009. September 14th Baby!!!!
"CJ"...
Ownership should count for something...
The donko's have changed ownership during that period I know for sure...So at least one of those "SB" appearance was under the old ownership....around 1977...Pat Bowlen took over 1984 from Edgar Kaiser....So we have the lead or tie over them in every category...
As for the "Dolts" it doesn't matter...Prior to the "90"s they never made it anywhere anyway....
Now by the way ownership is on the rocks in the "Mule Valley" again so here is hopping they fail and sell that team again...
PantyRaider....Down The West!!!/_
Carefull there, Calico. You're going past six years ago... H and I are here to tell you, that's dangerous territory. If you go back that far, you actually have to start dishing out some credit to Davis along with the blame.
Come on BR ... cut me some slack! You know I like to tell it like it is which includes giving Davis both credit and blame whenever warranted.
This post was a culmination of a few co-workers, 1 a Chief, the other a Chargers fan, who have been giving me grief the past few years.
My response was to dig deep, research, and paint a picture that shows each franchise by an objective standard.
As the saying goes, "The numbers don't lie!"
yeah a positive post on Al Davis does CJ have a fever?
Yeah I Agree with this post to the fullest. Not because i am a raiders fan or that i agree with Calico's opinion, It is because simply, the numbers don't lie. Even with the Raiders being so bad the last 6 years, the rest of the AFC West couldn't accomplish anything. Teams may of got close, but not all the Way!!!. Even when we had Gruden and our team was in discord. (players vs. gruden) We made it to the Superbowl. So i give Al Davis all the Credit in the world for what he has accomplished in the NFL. It has always been The Raiders Against the world. Always will be. So We rule over all teams in our division, since 1963, that says alot. So for the last 6 years how did Davis know that the players weren't going to do nothing? If the Raiders weren't such a force in the NFL and such a good team over the years(the team of the decades) Then nobody would give them so much crap. But for a team like the Chargers who never did anything, Going 1-15 in the year 2000, is an unmentionable. So Calico you rock for posting this and i give you mad props. Thanks for representing The Silver and Black, and also for representing Cali for the team who we all love. Go Raiders 50 YEARS BABY!!!!
Two of your measures are the same - AFC Championships = Superbowl appearances.
Which doesn't change the story. Hey, why don't you throw in the Seahawks numbers? They used to flounder around in our division...
