GM Now
I hate to keep beating the war drums about an obvious solution to the Raiders malaise but ...
I read a very pertinent quote the other day that was in reference to the resignation of Kansas City Chiefs GM Carl Peterson. This quote neatly puts a bow on the essence of the Raiders problems. Most Raider fans are painfully aware of the fact that Al Davis is pulling "double duty" as owner and GM. The downward spiral of the last six years is largely due to Davis being negligent in getting the help he desperately needs to move the franchise forward.
Here's the quote from the Chiefs' chairman in reference to replacing Peterson:
"I want somebody who's a shrewd evaluator of football talent," Hunt said. "His job will be 24/7 to think about the football team. That's the most important quality. Obviously I'm looking for a strong leader, a good communicator, preferably somebody who has experience in building a winning team"
In a nutshell, Davis needs an executive GM leader to shoulder the heavy lifting required to get this team back on the winning track.

Calico Jack, I got to your blog through a link in Raider Take's blog. I have to ask you, do you honestly, really think that Al Davis is going to bring in a GM? Or are we Raider fans just pining and hoping for nothing? In reality I see him bringing in someone to assist in the salary cap and maybe act as a liasion between head coach and owner, but Al will still make all the final decisions. And that SUCKS!

GatorRaider: Thanks for stopping by SBF. Do I think Al will bring in a GM? Good question. He did hint at the Kiffin firing press conference about bringing in a GM in the offseason ... whether that happens is anyone's guess. All we can do as Raider fans is hope that it happens. Without a real GM with real authority, my view is that it will be very difficult for the Raiders to get over the hump.
Why don't you write about the young players or something interesting instead of the same old same old

You serve your country in the USMC, then start your own blog, then pop off. Till then, consider yourself a guest here.
CJ, I'm happy for the win. There are rare moments of possibility with this team. You are spot on about the GM and HC. Looks like JaMRuss is maybe, just maybe, showing some of his potential.
Should be fun against Chuckie this weekend.
Tooz:
Thanks for the back up. Anon provided some "friendly fire". Here's what I want Anon to know and any other guest to SBF:
(1) Sign in with a name. The anonymous sign in is gutless. If you are too lazy or spineless to sign your name then chances are you are nothing more than a drive by "fan" trying to stir the pot then add anything meaningful to the dialog.
(2) This is my blog. A blog is nothing more than a personal diary. If you have strong feelings about Raider football than either sign your name, start you own blog, or push the F off.
(3) I have been following the Raiders as an avid fan for 30+ years ... my opinions are grounded in reality, facts, and my keen interest in the Raiders.
(4) Check my blog ... 174 posts and there are plenty of posts highlighting the young players.
Bottom Line:
I welcome all visitors to this site. Come with you own unique opinion about Raider football BUT don't be an ignorant, anonymous, spineless poster who insults the intelligence of true Raider fans.
