The Storm Clouds Shall Pass

The Broncos thoroughly throttled the Raiders 41 to 14 last night before a national audience. The Raiders defense wasn't able to (or chose not to; pick one) tackle, rush the passer, cover the receivers, stop the run, disguise their schemes, utilize blitz packages ... am I missing anything? Denver was able to successfully dial up any plays at will. It was U-G-L-Y & disheartening at the same time.

The only silver linings I could honestly find from this mess was the overall performance of JaMarcus Russell and the running attack. Russell completed 17 of his 26 attempted passes for 180 yards, 2 touchdown passes, and zero interceptions.

Instead of over analyzing this drubbing, this one belongs in the garbage can. The only true and sure way to get past this humiliating defeat is to make amends next Sunday in KC.

"Take your mind off the bad things, act like it never happened, and keep going," Russell said after the game.

CJ,

You forgot outcoached. Shanahan made Kiffin and Ryan look like fools. They were completely outschemed.

I agree with you on Russel's performance it was particularly impressive given the circumstances. The running game on the other hand nothing special as when you are down thrity some odd points it is not that hard to run the ball

Florida Raider,
Shanarat didn't make Kiffin/Ryan look like fools; Kiffin/Ryan made themselves look like fools.

raider nate,
I can not stand Shanahan and yes Ryan and Lane were lame.

But the Denver game plan was miles ahead of the Raiders in creativity. They had a nice mix of trick plays in with their regular packages had our subpar talent off balance right from the start.

I am not even depressed anymore only nauseated. McFadden, Russell and Nmandi all looked good now if we can only find 48 other guys and a new coach and, and and

What about our star safety, the Gerbil? He belongs wrapped in duct tape, lodged up someone's you-know-what with his tail on fire.

One game does not a season make, and I agree with Calico's comments on Russell so anything can yet happen. But Kiffin's desire to can Ryan during the offseason looks pretty smart right about now.

Let's wash this unholy mess off and go beat KC.

Florida Raider,
What this team needs the most is not "trick plays." We need confidence. The way you build confidence is POINTS! 4th and 1, in the red zone, down 7-0 early; YOU ALWAYS GO FOR 3 POINTS! THIS REWARDS THE OFFENSE FOR THE HARD WORK THEY DID, AND YOU PULL THEM ASIDE AND TELL THEM WHAT YOU WILL DO DIFFERENTLY TO GET 7 POINTS NEXT TIME! THIS ALSO BUILDS UP THE CONFIDENCE OF THE DEFENSE, IT GIVES THEM THE FEELING OF, "WE ARE BACK IN THIS GAME, LET'S GO PUNCH SOME DONCOS!" EVEN IF THINGS TURNED OUT DIFFERENTLY AND WE GET 7 POINTS, I WOULD HAVE DISAGREED WITH THAT PLAY IN THAT TIME OF THE GAME.
THE SAME WITH THE END-AROUND-REVERSE TO SURE HANDS HIGGINS. THAT PLAY CAME AT A TIME WE WERE STARTING TO BUILD A GOOD RHYTHM PASSING AND RUNNING. AS A COACH YOU CONTINUE TO CALL THE PLAYS THAT ARE WORKING TO CONTINUE TO BUILD THE CONFIDENCE OF YOUR TEAM TO PUT POINTS ON THE BOARD! THE 4TH AND 1, AND THIS PLAY SHOULD BE CALLED WHEN YOU HAVE THE OPPONENT BACK ON THEIR HEALS, AND YOU'RE LOOKING TO DRIVE THE STAKE THROUGH THE HEART; NOT WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO BUILD CONFIDENCE AND GET THINGS STARTED! LANE KIFFIN DID JUST AS BAD OF A JOB COACHING THIS TEAM. READ HIS COMMENTS THE LAST 2 PRESS CONFERENCE, AND HE IS DEFEATED! HIS DEMEANOR, BODY-LANGUAGE, AND WORDS SCREAM "I'M DEFEATED."
KIFFIN AND RYAN DO NOT SEE EYE-TO-EYE, AND THEY ARE QUITTING ON EACH OTHER, AND THE TEAM SUFFERS FOR THEIR INEPTITUDE. THEY BOTH NEED TO GO.
