The man is a pioneer, legend and The Raiders. He has done so much for football and all of pro sports. There are things that will come out, that will validate his so called mistakes. He is human, but it is what you do with the time you have on earth that makes you immortal. The things he has created and help create throughout the decades will live forever. His vision must be carried out by the rest of The Nation. The Silver and Black must dominate again. It must win three more Superbowls soon. It must bring to light all the injustice other owners and league officials have stolen from it...then take back the glory by being victorious. Mr. Davis has molded a much more exciting game that includes all the best athletes (white, black, yellow, green, etc) and all the most amazing plays(the deep strike, etc) and he did it his way. All the other owners are punks and lie through their teeth. They all know it. They didn't want the AFL. He brought it. They didn't want the black athlete. He welcomed them all. They didn't want him in L.A. or anywhere at all. He brought championships there and spread The Nation across the globe. It takes a Mavrick to bring together outcasts and misplaced misfits under one shield and turn it all into excellence. There are many people in the world that are flat out different. They all have amazing skills and creative minds. Most find strength in themselves by living life as a Raider. Players, Coaches, staff members, family members and most importantly the fans are all Raiders. It is great to have faith. To have Love. To have a passion for things that make you understand and help others. To be a part of Al's Nation...is not to be a part of something bigger...it's to belong to the biggest and best thing ever! We are The Raider Nation. We are the fuel that will never run out. We will bring victory back with or without him, but under the Raider shield and the Raider way that he has instilled. Be yourself. Be better than the best. Strive to be a Raider. Speak your mind. Eat and breath your passion. Just Win Baby!
I drag out my father-in-law analogy about once a year. Here goes: my father-in-law fought in th RAF in WWII. I would put him against any man when he was in his prime for bravery, honor, intelligence and any other quality you can imagine. There was none like him as far as I'm concerned. Through his leadership and efforts, the British won the Battle of Britain, and ultimately with the US and allies, the entire war. Today, he has alzheimers and is confined to a facility. He is 100% not the man he once was. We honor him and care for him because of what he was. But we do not want him in charge of anything now. He is incapable. It would be sad. It would be irresponsible.
Now, consider Al Davis. I submit that the case of my father-in-law is very much the case of Al Davis. Always honored, always revered, always the father of the Raiders. But in no way should he be in a position of responsibility now.
Time to move on, folks. I'd rather not wait till he passes away. The best honor we can give him is to move him aside, modernize, and win one last Lombardi trophy in his honor while he is still alive.
Well Tooz72...He may not be 100%, but he is alive and well enough to shift funds correctly and sign just the right talent for the team this year. He will head out to the sunset with pride and poise ... with a fight.
His moves are setting up the team for greater things. He knows the business and it's future. He sees the cap-free season up ahead and he will do the right things now, so The Raiders reep victory later.
If he steps down or gets ill, we will carry his Silver and Black torch to the top of the league more than just one more time. We, The Nation, will win at least 3, 4 or more!
While the haters remember the rumors and the media smears the young talented team, us true Raider fans should be totally stoked for this up coming season.
Can't wait for the action to start,i'm getting excited now. As for Big Al....Total respect for the guy and long may he live. I hope his 80th birthday gift next year will be made of silver by Tiffanys and will compliment his other three beautifully.
c'mon CJ, whatcha got for us? you know your itching to put out a new article. slap together some awe inspiring #'s and let us have it baby. this is gonna be goood!!! or how bout something like how the mood in "RAIDER NATION" has changed since the "Al veto's Kid Kiffin's idea to fire Ryan" story and all the subsequent hit pieces thereafter. there's a positive vibe around here despite 5 straight horrific seasons.
I have spent the past 3 weeks in Thailand on a much needed vacation. Now that I'm back in the USA, I'm ready to get up to speed on the Silver and Black for the 2008 season. :) CJ
