Mahalo Derrick

Congratulations to Raiders DE Derrick Burgess! Burgess, who has notched 11 sacks in 14 games, was the sole representative of the Raiders to be selected for the 2006 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

It was disappointing to see other All Pro worthy candidates like CB Nnamdi Asomugha and DT Warren Sapp were unrecognized for this honor. Besides being #2 in the league in interceptions (7), Asomugha shut down these 3 Pro Bowl wide receivers; Anquan Boldin (4 receptions, 59 yards, 0 TD), Andre Johnson (1 reception, 9 yards, 0 TD), and Torry Holt (4 receptions, 59 yards, 0 TD). Sapp has more sacks (8) than any other DT in the entire league.

Nevertheless, the Raiders are building an outstanding defense that should be an elite unit for many years to come. Here are the complete Pro Bowl rosters for the AFC and NFC. Aloha!

Its great and fitting that Burgess got to his first pro bowl this year, but seriously troubling that no other deserving raiders made it. CJ, I agree wholeheartedly with your suggestions that Sapp, Asomugha and Lechler should have all been voted in this year. Their numbers flat-out demand it. But, with a team that is in the duldrums, its not too surprising, usually the high-profile (successful) teams get more votes; typical ignorance on the part of the media and other voters. But I would say, although I laude the great play by Nnamdi, Burgess, my guy Sands, and others, of all the players this year, I applaude the play and class of Sapp. He has played hard and with poise this season; for a guy with a huge motor mouth, he has not been complaining (alot) about coaching, the offense, etc., he has been out playing hard, playing for respect, I think he is playing like is he was 5 years younger. Particularly, look at the difference between Sapp and Moss this season. Both are 2 dominant veterans, but seeing how Sapp has behaved and performed this season, and looking at Moss; its like seeing night and day. Moss has whined and complained, and played half-heartedly (which for a professional athlete 'taking' millions of dollars a year, is unforgiveable), Sapp has played with pride and poise - and for that, I really thank and respect him.

According to the SanFranchiseCronicle Tuesday SportsPage Sapp and Lechler recieved the most votes of any player at their positions from the fans....so it is the coaches and writers who "Smited" them....how interesting is that.....
