Making Cents

This off-season just keeps getting better and better ... QB JaMarcus Russell was released today. This deliberate and decisive move saves the organization $6.45M and the players and coaching staff from the unnecessary distraction of Russell polluting the field with his negative energy. A new era in Raider football feels like it is officially underway. Brilliant! No one, and I mean nobody, has ever been a more skilled check casher in the history of the NFL. Russell had the supreme,top-level skills to get an ink pen, endorse the back of the check and slide it to the teller. As $39M circles the drain in Alameda, it is time to put this ugly chapter behind us with truly a fresh start.

Finally, he had no leadership skills and was a cancer to the team. Awesome article as always, Calico Jack.

Everytime I see JaMarcus, I can't help but sing Weird Al's "I'm Fat!" song.

CJ, the Raiders went on a diet. Lost about 320 lbs. Looking better.

In other news, I visited and toured Cowboy Stadium 2 weeks ago. OMG. You should go see what $1.4 billion can do. An absolute monument to football: Big 12, SEC, NFL all featured there. And unfortunately a highlight reel from last year on every flat screen in the place. Raiders in throwback uniforms.

Looking forward to a better season this fall!

So far, so good Dard. A smart, sensible, productive off-season, solid improvements including a major upgrade at QB, no drama, stability, etc ... however, clearly in my mind, it is "just prove it, baby". Game results are the only thing that matters after 7 consecutive 11+ loss seasons.

If you're in need of a laugh, try the UFL. You've heard of the UFL, right? The new developmental league for the NFL? I know you're not like me, who ridicules the very pretense of it being a developmental league. We've got one already, it's called the NCAA!! So the UFL is doomed to fail. But not without smiles -- the Sacramento Mountain Lions feature none other than Daunte Culpepper at QB and Dennis Green at head coach. The mind spins at the endless possible combinations of poor field play combined with poor clock management. May they go the way of the Monarchs. Fast.
